How to Fix a DMV Record
- 1). Visit the DMV website for the state issuing your driver's license. Look for information specifically pertaining to changing your information. There may be an option to make changes online, but some states will require an in-person visit to verify identity. If information is not readily available online, call the DMV and speak with a representative.
- 2). Change your information online if the option is available. You will still have to verify your identity by entering personal information and possibly a credit card number. If your DMV does not provide online processing, you may be able to make changes over the phone. If the correction is necessitated by an error by the DMV, you may need to contact them to avoid fees associated with information changes.
- 3). Call your DMV and ask them if you can change your information via telephone. Some states allow this, but you still have to verify your identity and provide payment. If not, you may have to visit in person.
- 4). Visit your local DMV office, whose address can be found on their website or local directory. Bring your current driver's license and a form of payment. Explain the required correction to the agent at the counter. For a change of address, you may have to pay a fee.
