    Save directly to a flash drive

    • 1). Insert the flash drive into your computer's USB slot. Look for the USB slots on the left or right side of a laptop, or the front or back panels of a desktop computer.

    • 2). Click "File" and "Save As" on a program's menu.

    • 3). Click "Computer" in "Save" dialog's sidebar.

    • 4). Double-click the icon representing your flash drive under "Devices With Removable Storage," for example "Removable Disk (G:)."

    • 5). Type a name for your file into the "Name" box and click "Save."

    • 6). Left click the "Remove Hardware" icon in the system tray at the bottom-right corner of your screen and click the "Safely Remove" option for your flash drive, for example "Safely Remove Mass Storage Device - Drive (G:)."

    • 7). Remove the flash drive from your computer's USB slot.

    Copy to a flash drive

    • 1). Insert the flash drive into your computer's USB slot. Look for the USB slots on the left or right side of a laptop, or the front or back panels of a desktop computer.

    • 2). Click "Start" and "Computer." Your flash drive is displayed with your other hard drives and disk drives in the "Computer" window under "Drives with Removable Storage."

    • 3). Navigate to a file on your hard drive in the "Computer" window.

    • 4). Copy a file to the flash drive by right-clicking it, clicking "Send To" and clicking the name of the flash drive, for example "Removable Disk (G:)."

    • 5). Left click the "Remove Hardware" icon in the system tray at the bottom-right corner of your screen and click the "Safely Remove" option for your flash drive, for example "Safely Remove Mass Storage Device - Drive (G:)."

    • 6). Remove the flash drive from your computer's USB slot.
