Eastern red cedar trees are not true cedars. They are junipers or Juniperus species. True cedars, Cedrus species, are not susceptible to cedar-apple rust. Junipers, which include eastern red cedars, are the alternate host for cedar-apple rust. J. virginiana "Berg's Rust Resistant", "Burkii", "Globosa" and "Tripartita" are all resistant to cedar-apple rust. According to the Ohio State University Extension, the "Skyrocket" cultivar is rust-resistant; however, according to the University of Illinois Extension, there has been some susceptibility reported.
J. virginiana "Hetzii" has good cedar-apple rust resistance. It grows to a mature height of 12 to 15 feet and width of 10 to 15 feet in a fountain shape. The blue or gray-green foliage is needle-type when it first emerges, and changes to scale-type as it matures.
J. virginiana "Taylor" also has good rust resistance. It has a tall narrow shape with a mature height of 15 to 20 feet and width of only 3 to 4 feet. The foliage is similar to Hetzii in form but is a silvery blue-green that will sometimes turn slightly bronze in the winter months. - Redfree apples will retain their quality for up to one month under refrigeration.Thinkstock Images/Comstock/Getty Images

Its apples are firm, crisp and juicy, with a slightly tart, sweet flavor. William's Pride is also resistant to fire blight and powdery mildew. Its apples are sweet with a firm, crisp texture. Novamac is resistant to fire blight but has only moderate resistance to powdery mildew. It produces tart apples, very similar to McIntosh apples, that can be stored for up to three months without losing quality. Priscilla is also resistant to fire blight but has only moderate resistance to powdery mildew. Its apples are very crisp with a sweet or slightly tart flavor. They can be stored for two or three months without losing flavor or texture. - Liberty apple trees produce extremely large crops each year.Zedcor Wholly Owned/PhotoObjects.net/Getty Images
