How to Motivate Yourself to Practice Guitar
- 1). Create realistic goals. Focus on learning one song or one skill per week. Write down your goals and post them on a refrigerator, in a day planner or somewhere you'll see them every day.
- 2). Listen to your favorite guitar players often. Hearing talented musicians can help motivate you to practice.
- 3). Join a band or play music with a group of friends on a regular basis. Playing with others helps motivate you to practice and improve your skills. Surrounding yourself with other musicians who are also learning can be inspiring.
- 4). Take private lessons. Check yellow pages or online for private music tutors, who can help develop your musical skills in a realistic time frame that is geared to your needs. Ask for homework in the form of scales, chord sequences or songs to practice each week. Having a tutor to hold you accountable may help motivate you to practice.
- 5). Practice at the same time in the same place. Creating a schedule for yourself makes it more difficult to stray from your practice time. Practice in an environment that is conducive to learning.
