    • 1). Connect subwoofer to your computer. Powered subwoofers will need to be plugged in to either a wall socket, a surge protection strip or via USB cable.

    • 2). Select subwoofer as a preferred device for audio output. Click "Start," "control panel" and "sounds." Choose the subwoofer that you've connected. At this time you can also adjust the audio levels for your speaker group. (Bass levels should be lowered when going from a speaker group that did not include a subwoofer to a group that does.)

    • 3). Click "configure" and select either "quadraphonic" or "5.1 Surround." This will enable the audio signals to be properly routed to your newly attached subwoofer.

    • 4). Click "test" to check the levels that you have selected.

    • 5). Click the icon for the subwoofer to isolate the output from the subwoofer; adjust as necessary.

    • 6). Play a selection from your media library or navigate to a known site with audio output. The lower frequency audio will now be routed to your subwoofer.
