Facts on the Toyota Celica
- The Celica LT, ST and GT were introduced in 1970. The car's traditional rear-wheel drive was replaced with front-wheel drive in 1985 and the final generation of Celica was introduced in 2000.
- Over the years the Celica was offered as a two-door coupe, three-door hatchback, three-door liftback and two-door convertible. The Celica has been offered as a three-speed and four-speed automatic and a four, five and six-speed manual transmission.
- Seven different generations of Celicas were offered beginning with the first generation from 1970-1977. The second generation existed from 1978 to 1981; the third generation from 1982-1985; the fourth generation from 1985-1989; the fifth generation from 1990-1993; the sixth generation from 1994-1999; and the seventh generation from 2000-2005.
- Motor Trend named the Celica the Import Car of the Year in 1976 and 1978, and the Celica GT-S was one of Consumer's Digest's Best Buys and Car and Driver's Ten Best Cars in 1984.
- In 2002 U.S. Consumer Reports rated the Celica as the Most Reliable Sporty Car and the Most Wanted Sports Coupe Under $30,000.
