    • 1). Turn off the electricity to the existing ceiling fixture at the house's fuse box. Test it at the wall switch to make sure it's off.

    • 2). Remove the fixture by taking out the screws holding to it to the ceiling, lowering the fixture and disconnecting the wires. Also unscrew and remove the mounting plate that's attached to the ceiling electrical box to which the fixture was attached.

    • 3). Pull on the electrical box. If it moves at all, stop and consult a contractor about getting it properly secured. If it doesn't move, continue with installation.

    • 4). Locate the mounting plate from your fan kit. Attach it to the electrical box using the provided screws. Make sure the wires from the box are accessible around the plate.

    • 5). Assemble the fan parts, except for the blades. Take the unit up the ladder. Connect the white wire from the ceiling to the white wire from the fan unit, twisting a wire nut over the ends to tie them together. Repeat the process to connect the two black wires.

    • 6). Connect the bare copper grounding wire from the box around the green screw that's on the mounting plate.

    • 7). Set the fan unit in place against the ceiling, pushing the wiring up in the ceiling box. Connect the unit to the mounting plate with the provided screws. Install the blades as instructed. Turn on the power and test the fan at the wall switch.
