    • 1). Place a quarter on top of the beer cap and then use a bottle opener to remove the cap. The quarter prevents pressure from crushing or bending your beer cap. You want caps to be blemish free when making magnets.

    • 2). Wash and dry your beer caps using hot soapy water. This removes any sticky residue that might attract ants looking for sugar.

    • 3). Use a knife to cut or pry out the plastic liner on the inside of the cap. Scrape away as much of the plastic as possible to expose some metal. The glue will stick better to metal than the slippery plastic.

    • 4). Place the cap on the sheet of thick cardboard. Trace around the outside of the beer cap using the pencil. Cut inside the lines using scissors to create a small circle that fits inside the beer cap. Check the circle to make sure it fits and trim off small amounts around the edge of the circle if necessary.

    • 5). Apply a dab of hot glue to the inside of the cap. Insert the cardboard circle and let it set.

    • 6). Apply more hot glue to the cardboard circle. Place a magnet against the hot glue and press tightly to get a good bond. Allow to cool before placing on your refrigerator or other metal surface.
