How to Fill Your Own Ink Cartriges
- 1). Select a work area. The process of refilling a printer cartridge can be messy so you may want to work over a sink. Otherwise, cover your work surface with newspapers or scrap paper.
- 2). Fill the syringe with ink. Follow the directions included in refill kit for best results.
- 3). Locate the refill hole on the cartridge. Use an object with a pointed tip to push it open. Create a refill hole if none exists by using a tool included in the refill kit or by using a syringe or small drill.
- 4). Insert the needle of the syringe into the hole. Do not push the needle to the bottom of the cartridge or the ink may overflow when the space is full. Fill the cartridge with the ink slowly to avoid air bubbles.
- 5). Remove the needle when the cartridge is full. Wipe off any excess ink from the cartridge. Refer to the printer manual to determine whether to cover the holes on the cartridge. If it is necessary, cover the holes with a small piece of aluminum tape.
- 6). Place the cartridge on a paper towel. Leave it for about an hour to allow the sponge in the cartridge to absorb the ink. Place the cartridge in the printer. Use the printer's utility program to run one to three cleaning cycles.
