Hot Headed? How to Keep Your Anger in Check

No one likes to admit that they have shortcomings.
But the truth of the matter is that we all have shortcomings.
And sometimes our shortcomings can cause problems in our relationships.
This is especially true if you have a temperament that tends to run a little hot.
Before you can fix a hot-headed temperament, however, you need to admit that you have one.
One sure sign that you have a hot-headed temperament is if you find yourself angry more often than not.
Even if you don't vocally express your anger, you should be worried if you feel angry, slighted or out of control often.
You can also tell you have a poor temperament if those around you are always acting like they expect you to get angry at any given moment.
If you are an angry person, you should know that your temperament could negatively impact your relationship.
Anger does not foster a close relationship.
Instead, it divides people.
The angrier you are, the more you will notice that those that are close to you will pull away from you.
Anger is not an attractive trait.
If you have anger issues, there are a few things that you can do to calm down your temperament: o Walk Away - If you feel yourself starting to get aggravated or angry with a situation, walk away from it.
Go outside.
Go to your bedroom.
Take five minutes to cool down.
If you need to, do something you enjoy to refocus your energies.
Once you have calmed down, you will be able to think more clearly.
You may find that there was really no reason to be angry at all.
o Wear Their Shoes - Put yourself in the other person's position.
How would you want to be spoken to? Would an outburst of anger from your spouse make you feel closer to them or would it hurt you and make you feel insecure? o Think Before You Speak - Words spoken in anger are often harsh.
So, think before you speak.
Do not say anything until it is double and triple edited in your mind.
If you are unsure of what you want to say, let it go for a while.
Maybe the words will come to you later.
Maybe you will find that words are not needed at all.
o Speak Calmly - Whatever you say, say it calmly.
Strive to keep your voice under control.
Speaking calmly will also help you feel calmer.
Remember, a hot-headed temperament will do nothing positive for your relationship.
If you feel like you have an issue with anger, you should do something about it now.
If you are unsure of what it is that you do that bothers those around you, ask.
Having a conversation with your partner about your anger will give you plenty of insight and leave him or her feeling like you care about their feelings.
Communication never fails.
So, communicate openly and freely.
Your relationship will thank you for it.
