    • 1). Slide on work gloves, safety glasses and a dust mask to protect skin, eyes and lungs. Ask your assistant to do the same. Sit the floating dock on top of four concrete blocks so you can work both above and below the dock.

    • 2). Measure the length of your floating dock. Cut two 10-inch by 20-inch foam billets to match the length with a handheld foam-cutting saw. Purchase foam billets through a marine foam manufacturing specialist. Buy a handheld foam-cutting saw at your local home supply store.

    • 3). Fit one billet into the bottom of the dock frame so it sits perpendicular to the cross ties. Press the billet flush against one side of the dock frame. Fit the second billet into position in identical fashion. Press the second billet flush against the opposite side of the dock frame.

    • 4). Lay the first dock skid on top of the first billet. Center the skin top the billet. Ask the assistant to hold the billet in place.

    • 5). Drill a hole straight down through the skid, the billet and the first cross tie directly underneath the billet.

    • 6). Fit a bolt down into the hole. Carefully slide yourself underneath the dock. Secure the bolt with a nut and washer using a socket wrench. Repeat steps five and six for however many cross ties on your dock--traditionally four to six. Drill all of the holes first before inserting and securing the bolts.
