How to Tie Hooks & Sinkers

    • 1). Hold the hook or sinker in one hand and the fishing line in the other. Hold the hook or sinker so that the eye is up and extends past your thumb and finger for easy tying.

    • 2). Attach your fishing line to the hook or sinker with a Palomar knot. Begin forming the knot by passing six to eight inches of line through the eye of the hook or sinker. If working with a hook, feed the line through the eye from the point side.

    • 3). Turn the end of the line back toward the eye forming a loop. Pass the end back through the eye and pull it alongside the main line, forming a double line. You will now have a 2- to 3-inch loop on one side of the hook or sinker and a double line on the other.

    • 4). Tie an overhand knot with the loop and doubled line. Pull the loop through the knot and down over the end of the sinker or hook. When tying a hook, pull the loop down around the bend and up past the point.

    • 5). Moisten the knot with water or saliva and pull the main line and free end to tighten the knot down around the eye. Trim excess line from the knot with sharp scissors.
