    • 1). Wash your hands often, and encourage the rest of your family to do the same. Especially encourage your sick child to wash her hands regularly after she coughs, sneezes or blows her nose.

    • 2). Show your child how to cough or sneeze into the crook of his elbow, rather than into his hands. This will reduce the amount of germs on his hands, which will in turn limit the number of germs that touch other surfaces in your home.

    • 3). Use disinfectant to clean all hard surfaces that your child touches often, such as door handles, toilet handles, faucets, tabletops, toys or phones.

    • 4). Consider getting the flu vaccine during the late fall months. Ask your doctor about the benefits and downsides of this vaccine.
