    • 1). Walk up to the control panel on your Brother MFC-8460N after you've replaced the drum and toner cartridge. If you closed the front cover after the replacement, push the cover release lever and pull the cover open again.

    • 2). Press the "Clear/Back" key. If you can't find the key, it's positioned to the right of the LCD under the arrow keys. If the unit is working correctly, "Replace Drum?" and two options -- "1. Yes" and "2. No" -- should appear on the display.

    • 3). Push "1" on the keypad to select the "1. Yes" option and reset the drum life counter. Wait for "Accepted" to appear on the LCD. Lift up the front cover and push it shut to lock the latch.

    • 4). Return to the main screen by pushing the "Stop/Exit" key.

    • 5). Access the "73. Parts Life" menu to confirm that the drum life counter has reset. Push "Menu" and then "7" and "3" on the keypad. Push "1" to select "1. Drum" from the options; or push the "Down Arrow" to highlight the "1. Drum" option and "OK" to select it. Confirm that the display shows "Remaining: 100%" -- or a number as close to 100 as possible -- under "1. Drum" on the menu.

    • 6). Exit the menu by pushing "Stop/Exit."
