Essential Oil for Arthritis Pain
- Arthritis, whether it is rheumatoid or osteoarthritis, can affect the joints in any part of the body causing pain, stiffness and swelling.
- There are many essential oils that can be used as a topical treatment. Some of the more common ones are eucalyptus, chamomile, camphor, lavender, black pepper, ginger, marjoram and wintergreen.
- According to Mireille Gautschi, a Flower Essence Therapist and Herbalist, making hot compresses is one of the most effective ways to use essential oils for arthritis. Dilute 3 to 6 drops of essential oil in a container of hot water and use a cotton cloth to apply to the affected area.
- Diluted essential oils can be applied directly on to the inflamed or painful area. Dilution should be 1/4 tsp. of essential oil with 6 tbsp. of carrier oil or vegetable oil.
- The essential oils for arthritis should only be used topically or as aromatherapy and not for ingestion. Many essential oils can be dangerous or poisonous if taken internally.
