How to Dilute Essential Oils for Aromatherapy
- 1). Decide on the dilution strength of the final oil. Common preparations use 1%, 2%, and 3% dilution.
- 2). Measure out the appropriate quantity of carrier oil. This is the final amount of finished oil which will be produced. You may choose to substitute jojoba oil for 10% of the carrier oil to extend the shelf life of the blend.
- 3). Add the essential oil to the carrier oil to create the aromatherapy oil blend. Use a measuring chart to determine the proper number of drops for the correct dilution. One ounce of oil equals approximately 600 drops.
- 4). Add 200-400 IU of vitamin E oil, if desired. This will help extend the shelf life of the preparation.
