While certain materials used in modern bathrooms can look fantastic and be well suited to the daily rigours of bathroom life, when allowed to dominate the overall aesthetic of the room, the result can sometimes feel a little sterile and uninviting. Materials such as chrome and acrylic are ideal for items such as your bathroom suite and taps, but they do need to be balanced out by something more tactile, more organic, in order to achieve a balanced look, a look which is both modern and still inviting.

Bathroom suites manufactured from ceramic, stone-resin and acrylic are the industry standard no, and they are here to stay, which is all well and good, as these are the materials best suited to that particular area of bathroom life. But there several other areas in which we can introduce some softer, more appealing materials in order to achieve that all important balance.

Bathroom furniture has made an enormous comeback in recent years, and is going from strength to strength. By far and away, the most popular choice of finish for contemporary bathroom furniture is to opt for a natural wooden look, whether that is solid wood, or the more affordable wood-effect veneer. From light woods such as oak and pine, all the way to rich, opulent darker hues such as walnut and wenge, wooden furniture is all about returning some tactile appeal, some character and identity back into your bathroom, to move away from everyday having matching, minimalist spaces with no real personality.

There are three types of bathroom furniture that consistently prove to be the most popular; the fitted basin vanity unit, the wall-mounted cabinet the tall, narrow freestanding unit know. Installing one example of each of these types of bathroom cabinet will provide ample storage for even the busiest shared bathroom, and by selecting a matching wooden finish, you will create a unifying design theme that will easily counteract the more austere aspects of your bathroom suite.

A fresh coat of paint is a tried and tested way to give any room a new lease of life, and although we tend play it safe in bathrooms white paint, opting for a light pastel shade will soften the overall look of the room, making it seen less severe, whilst still remaining light and airy.

A balanced bathroom that is modern and yet comfortable, streamlined and yet inviting is more easily achievable than ever before. All that remains is for you to do a little research to find the perfect wooden furniture for your bathroom.
