How to Replace a Computer Cooling Fan

    • 1). Unplug the power cord of the computer from the electrical outlet. Remove the screws from the back of the computer case with a screwdriver, setting the screws in a safe place.

    • 2). Slide the cover forward off the computer case so you can access the interior of the cabinet. Locate the cooling fan on the inside of the computer back wall.

    • 3). Unfasten the screws on the outside of the computer case in the back that hold the cooling fan to the case with a screwdriver. Unplug the electrical wire connector that runs from the fan to the motherboard, detaching the connector from the motherboard by hand.

    • 4). Remove the cooling fan from the computer case. Plug the new cooling fan electrical connector into the motherboard and attach the fan to the interior of the computer case on the back wall with screws.

    • 5). Slide the cover over the computer case and secure the cover in the back with screws. Plug the power cord of the computer into the electrical outlet.
