    • 1). Draw an arch on one 12 3/4-inch edge of the 1- by 6- by 12 3/4-inch board. Use the flexible curve ruler to create the arch.

    • 2). Cut the arch out with a band saw. This is the mounting board.

    • 3). Rout around the perimeter of one 6- by 12 3/4-inch sides of the arched board with a round-over bit. This is the front face of the mounting board.

    • 4). Measure in 1 inch in from each end and 1 inch down from the start of the arch on the mounting board. Mark the measurements. Drill a 1/16-inch hole through the board at the marks.

    • 5). Set up the table saw to make a 3/8-inch-wide by 1-inch-deep cut. Measure and mark 1 1/2-inches over from one 2-inch-wide end of the board on the long side of the board. This is the outside edge of the first slot. Space each slot 1 1/2 inches apart. The slot is 3/8 inch wide. Mark the board accordingly. The result will be six slots.

    • 6). Cut the six notches into the board on the table saw.

    • 7). Cut six 1 1/4-inch pieces out of the 1/4- by 3/8- by 12-inch board using a miter saw. Drill a 1/16-inch hole 1/8 inch from one 3/8-inch end of each piece in the center of the 3/8-inch width.

    • 8). Make a small v-shaped notch near one 3/8-inch end on one of the 1 1/4-inch sides of each piece using a bench knife. These are the latch pieces.

    • 9). Sand each wooden part with fine-grit sandpaper. Apply a wood finish to the parts. Allow the finish to dry before continuing.

Place the mounting board with the 1-inch edge opposite the arched edge flat on a work surface. Position the notched board with the 1-inch edge opposite the notched edge flat against the mounting board. The 2-inch side will be flat with the work surface.

Drive flush trim screws every 2 inches through the back of the mounting board into the back edge of the notched board.

Lay the back of the mounting board flat. Align the latch pieces over the notches. The holes should be on one side of the notch and the v-shaped notch should be oriented toward the bottom of the rack. Tack a brad through each hole into the notched board. Tack another brad where the latch pieces line up on the opposing side of the notch on the notched board.

Select a position on a wall. Drive a screw through each hole in the mounting board to fasten the rack to the wall. Open a latch and place the pole handle over the notched board. Close the latch. The tip of the rod will face down.
