How to Make Poultices
- 1). Research the healing properties of herbs. Since each herb is different, make sure you are using the appropriate one to treat your particular medical issue. Herbs commonly used in poultices include goldenseal, onion, sage and slippery elm.
- 2). Grind up dried herbs using a mortar and pestle. Add a small amount of water to make the herbs into a paste.
- 3). Cut a piece of gauze or muslin the size of the area you wish to treat with the poultice. Set on a flat surface. Spread the herb paste on the muslin.
- 4). Clean the affected area of skin with hydrogen peroxide, then place the poultice on the skin.
