Drinking Water Pollution - The Truth Exposed - Is Your Health Being Threatened?

How times have changed, not so long ago a glass of clean pure water was commonplace that it was taken for granted. Everyone expected that the water supply from their taps was to the highest quality. All that has changed, not overnight, but gradually as more and more contaminants were finding their way into our water supply. Nowadays, we are faced with a major problem of drinking water pollution.

Although your local water treatment plant does its best with the equipment available the sheer numbers of contaminants have overwhelmed it. At the last count, there were over 80,000 different chemicals in our water supply. Of course not all of these will be present at any one time in your water supply. N some 2100 of these have been identified as carcinogenic.

The testing of tap water in several large cities found quantities of weed killer. This ranged from a single instance to a maximum of nine different weed killers in a single glass.

Our increased use of synthetic chemicals has meant that without a shadow of a doubt any chemical we use will eventually end up in our water supply. As many people have found out it is not necessary for any pollution to be introduced into your water supply locally. It can enter the water supply many miles distant and the travel to your location contaminating the water as it goes.

Drinking water pollution can occur after the water leaves the treatment plant. Contamination can happen in the length of pipe from the plant to your house. The pipes in your house can also contribute to the pollution levels. The plumbing fixtures and fittings can add traces of lead to your water. Even the so called "lead free" pipes contain up to 8% lead and during the first months of use will leach lead into the water supply.

It is important not to be lulled into a false sense of security in thinking that all the microscopic organisms have been eliminated by the disinfection process. The chlorine has no effect on some of them because they do not stay long enough in the disinfection process. It takes a finite time to render these pathogens harmless but because of the speed at which the water carrying them travels through the plant the chlorine does not have time to have any effect. Normally, these organisms are not a problem, but every so often there is an outbreak of a water borne disease.

In order to avoid potential health problems with drinking water pollution you should take advantage of the many water filtration systems specifically designed to eliminate these problems. Among the premier models are activated carbon systems. You and your family can enjoy pure clean water, even your coffee will taste better.
