How to Knit a Crab Net
- 1). Tie a slip knot. This will keep the yarn firmly attached to the needles while you are working.
- 2). Slip the loop of the slip knot over the needle you will hold in your right hand, if you are right-handed. Pull on the working strand of yarn, which goes to the skein, to tighten the loop.
- 3). Cast on stitches. The number of stitches you cast on will determine the width of your net. For a narrow ladder shaped net, knit on five stitches. For a large square net that can be draped like a hammock knit 20.
- 4). Knit loosely into your cast on stitches. If you knit too tight there will not be room in the stitches for the hermit crab to get its pinchers in the loops.
- 5). Slide a stick in the loops that are on the knitting needles while sliding them off of the needle. The stick will lay on the floor of the aquarium.
- 6). Run the tail back through the last loop and tie a knot to finish the knitting and prevent it from unraveling.
- 7). Attach suction cups to the corners of the net at the other end. Tie the suction cups to the knit net using some of the remaining yarn. The suction cups will stick to the side of the aquarium.
