    • 1). Attach a dry fly to the end of your tippet with an improved clinch knot. Moisten the knot with water or saliva before pulling tight. Trim excess from the free end of the line with scissors.

    • 2). Determine the depth in the water in which the nymph is being fished. Cut a length of tippet to use as a dropper. This allows the nymph to be presented at a specific level.

    • 3). Tie one end of the dropper length to the bend of the dry fly with an improved clinch knot. Position the line so it sits in the bend of the hook.

    • 4). Tie a nymph fly to the free end of the dropper with an improved clinch knot.

    • 5). Adjust the length of the dropper as necessary to present the nymph to bottom-feeding fish.
