    Accessing a Remote Computer With HyperTerminal

    • 1). Click "Start," "All Programs," "Accessories," "Communications," "HyperTerminal," "HyperTerminal." The HyperTerminal's set-up dialog box will appear.

    • 2). Enter your area code in the box under the heading "What area code (or city code) are you in now?"

    • 3). Enter your carrier code, if needed, in the box under the heading "If you need to specify a carrier code, what is it?"

    • 4). Enter "9" or your phone system's access code, if your computer's phone line is on a private branch exchange (PBX), in the box under the heading "If you dial a number to access an outside line, what is it?"

    • 5). Select "Tone dialing" or "Pulse dialing" by clicking on the circle by the dialing option used. Click "OK."

      The Phone and Modem Options" dialog box will open.

    • 6). Click "OK" to confirm your area code.

    • 7). Enter the name of the remote computer you are accessing under the heading "Name:" on the "Connection Description" dialog box.

    • 8). Select an icon to represent the remote computer. Click "OK." The "Connect To" dialog box will open.

    • 9). Enter the area code, country code and telephone number of the remote computer you are accessing. If your computer does not contain a modem, enter the remote computer's host address in the box next to "Host address." Enter the remote computer's port number in the box next to "Port number:" Click the down arrow on the box next to "Connect using:" Select "TCP/IP (Winsock)."

      Click "Dial." Your computer's modem will dial and connect to the remote computer. The remote computer's access screen will appear. If using "TCP/IP (Winsock)," click "OK" to connect to the remote computer.

      Enter the "username" and "password" assigned to you when prompted on the remote computer's access screen. You will be logged into the remote computer.

      Click "Call," "Disconnect" to disconnect from the remote computer.

      Click "File," "Save" to save the remote computer's connection information and icon selection.

    Sending a File to a Remote Computer Via HyperTerminal

    • 1). Click "Start," "All Programs," "Accessories," "Communications," "HyperTerminal," "HyperTerminal." The HyperTerminal application will open.

    • 2). Click on the remote computer's icon you want to access or create a new connection (see Section I).

    • 3). Click the "Dial" or "OK" to connect to the remote computer. The remote computer's access screen will appear.

    • 4). Click "Transfer," "Send File."

    • 5). Click "Browse" to navigate to the directory where the file you want to send is saved.

    • 6). Click "Open" to select the file.

    • 7). Click on the down arrow under the heading "Protocol" to select which protocol to use to send the file. "Zmodem with Crash Recovery" is the default protocol.

    • 8). Click "Send."

    Receiving a File from a Remote Computer Via HyperTerminal

    • 1). Click "Start," "All Programs," "Accessories," "Communications," "HyperTerminal," "HyperTerminal." The HyperTerminal application will open.

    • 2). Click on the remote computer's icon you want to access or create a new connection (see Section I).

    • 3). Click "Dial" or "OK" to connect to the remote computer. The remote computer's access screen will appear.

    • 4). Click "Transfer," "Receive File."

    • 5). Click "Browse" to navigate to the directory where the file is to be saved.

    • 6). Click "OK."

    • 7). Click on the down arrow under the heading "Protocol" to select which protocol to use to receive the file. "Zmodem with Crash Recovery" is the default protocol.

    • 8). Click "Receive."
