What is the Function of a Laptop Inverter?
- The purpose of a laptop inverter is to convert the power current from the laptop's main power source (low-voltage DC power) to a current that the backlight lamp can use (high-voltage AC power). In turn, the backlight lamp can illuminate the LCD panel, allowing the user to see the contents of the screen.
- Some laptop models allow users to adjust the brightness of the display. They include a built-in control that allows the user to adjust the amount of power the laptop inverter gives out (output). In short, higher output from the inverter results in a brighter display. Some inverters adjust the brightness automatically with the help of a built-in sensor that detects the amount of ambient light.
- Since a laptop inverter is directly concerned with the laptop's display panel, symptoms of a bad inverter board will be display-related, mostly having to do with the screen's brightness. A laptop with a very dark display (the contents are still present but very hard to see), a display that flickers, or a display that functions normally, goes dark, and then returns to normal functioning after a reboot can all be signs of a bad inverter board.
