Prepare the body for detoxification. Take high doses of the herb Silybum marianum daily, either as a capsule, liquid tincture or herbal decoction of the dried seeds. The recommended dose is 10 g daily of dried Silybum marianum extract. Silybum marianum helps to heal damaged liver cells and improves detoxification. In one study published in "Phytotherapy Research," researcher Šárka Chlopcíková found that Silybum marianum bound to heavy metals in the body and aided their excretion.

Bind heavy metals, rendering them safe and ready for excretion. Herbs such as garlic can be very effective at this if taken daily. Garlic contains sulfuric chemicals which bind to the heavy metals in the body, and help to promote their excretion through the liver and kidneys. One animal trial published in "The Journal of Korean Medical Science" found that garlic helped to prevent accumulation of mercury in the kidneys, liver, bone, testes and brain. Recommended dose is 300 mg daily of dried extract, or three freshly crushed garlic cloves daily.

Eliminate heavy metals from the body and support detoxification processes by maintaining the body's Glutathione levels. Glutathione is one of the strongest antioxidants in the body and a natural heavy metal detoxifier. It is produced by our cells and attaches to heavy metals, making them water soluble and able to be excreted by the kidneys. Healthy levels of glutathione can be supported through taking a vitamin B complex, vitamin C (500 mg), selenium (found in nuts and seeds) and herbs such as Silybum marianum and turmeric.

Support and protect the body to keep it safe and clean. Eat a diet rich in nutrients, dietary fiber and purified water. Organs will need plenty of nutrients like vitamin C and B complex to detoxify heavy metals, and water and fiber to carry out chemicals from the body. Increase daily fluid intake by one or two glasses above what is usual, and consider fiber supplements such as 4 g daily of slippery elm or psyllium hulls.
