    • 1). Soak a small towel in warm water. Wipe down the entire rod with the wet towel to remove the salt water. Be aggressive to remove the salt water from the cracks in the reel seat and use a soft touch on the rod blank and guides.

    • 2). Wipe down the rod with a dry towel to remove all of the moisture. Fill a cup with warm water and a mild dish soap. Soak the head of a toothbrush in the soapy water. Lightly massage the rod with the soft brush to remove caked salt from the blank and reel seat.

    • 3). Soak a new towel in warm water and complete a final wipe down. Remove all of the soap and salt on the final wiping.

    • 4). Wipe the rod with a dry towel and store the rod in a safe area until the next fishing trip.
