    • 1). Turn off the laptop. Unplug it from its power source.

    • 2). Remove all peripheral devices and network cards.

    • 3). Flip the laptop over and remove the battery.

    • 4). Touch a piece of unpainted metal to remove the static electricity from your body and clothes. Static electricity damages laptop hardware.

    • 5). Unfasten all of the screws with your screwdriver that hold the memory compartment door on the back of the laptop. There are seven screws.

    • 6). Find the memory module. It's a flat piece of circuitry that is about four inches long and a inch wide.

    • 7). Separate the clips simultaneously on each side of the memory module, if you need to remove it. The memory module will rise up to about 45 degrees. Slide the module out of the laptop.

    • 8). Find the nob on the new memory module and match it up with the notch in the memory module slot in the laptop.

    • 9). Slide the new memory into the slot at a 30-degree angle.

Push the memory module down so it is laying flat in the compartment. If you do this correctly, the two clips on either side of the memory module will snap into place against the edges.

Put the compartment door back on the laptop. Fasten the screws.

    • 12

Insert any cards and peripheral devices that you removed. Plug the machine back into its power source.

    • 13

      Turn on the laptop.
