    • 1). Launch Reason by clicking the three-pronged icon. Allow the default song template to load. Add an instrument by double-clicking it in the Tool Window. For this example, choose a Thor Polysonic synthesizer, though any of the instruments can be merged or split. Repeat the procedure to create a second Thor synthesizer.

    • 2). Double click the Spider CV Merger/Splitter in the Tool Window, which will automatically create one below the Thor. Press the Tab key to reveal the back of the instrument rack, and all the available connections and ports. The rear of the Spider is divided into two groups of ports, the merger and the splitter.

    • 3). Click and drag from the "CV1" port in the "Modulation Output" section, on the back of the first Thor unit, to the first input in the "Merger" section of the Spider. Repeat this, connecting the second Thor unit's "CV1" output to the second input on the merger. Create a third Thor unit by double clicking it in the Tool Window. Connect the "Merge" output on the merger to the "CV" input in the section labeled "Gate Control" on the rear of the third Thor. This will merge the control signals from the first two units, and send them to the third.

    • 4). Split a signal by connecting the same inputs and outputs to the opposite side of the Spider device. Connect the "CV1" output to the input labeled "Split A." The four adjacent outputs can then be connected to the CV inputs of four separate devices.
