    • 1). Set up a router near the cable modem. Plug the router into the wall for power. Connect the network cable from your cable modem to the Internet port on the router.

    • 2). Connect a network cable from your computer to one of the router's other ports. Open a web browser on that computer and enter the modem's IP address in the address bar. Enter the user name and password for the router. All of this information can be found in the router's manual or on the router. In the router menu, choose cable modem as the network connection type and enter in your cable user name and password. Enter a name for the network in the wireless section. Change any security settings for wireless that you want to change or enable. Save and exit.

    • 3). Connect the second computer to another port on the router, using a network cable or connect using a wireless card to the network you just set up. You can also connect the first computer wirelessly. To Connect wirelessly, right click on the wireless network icon on the bottom right side of the screen on the computer with the wireless card, and select your wireless network. Click "Connect."
