How to Make Your Computer Extremely Fast

    • 1). Close out every program except for the one you are using. Any programs running in the background take up crucial memory and closing them out will make your opened program faster.

    • 2). Remove any applications, programs or files you're not using. This is simply a matter of going through and deleting whatever "junk" programs that may be lying around on your computer. Remember to enter your Recycle Bin and permanently delete the files by clicking "Empty Recycle Bin." If you don't want to delete them, then back them up on an external hard drive.

    • 3). Defrag your computer. This can be done by right-clicking your C:/ drive under the Computer folder and entering the "Disk Defragmentation" menu. When files are saved, often bits of the files are scattered throughout your computer, which your machine must then search for when running a file or program, a process that takes up precious speed. Defragging will compress those fragmented parts into single files.

    • 4). Upgrade the graphics card. The graphics card is in charge of processing the graphics. Typically, a faster graphics card, like Nvidia's GeForce line, will mean a faster computer. Graphics cards can be purchased from electronics retailers and will come with specific installation instructions. They can usually only be applied to a desktop computer, not a laptop.

    • 5). Upgrade the RAM. Random access memory is the virtual memory that your computer uses to process applications and programs. More RAM equals more speed and many desktop computers have slots that allow you to easily insert more RAM memory, which can be purchased from electronics retailers and come on circuit-like cards. As of May 2011, most standard computers have 2 GB of RAM, while gaming computers can have up to 8 GB or even 16 GB.

    • 6). Upgrade the CPU. The CPU is the brain of your computer, with more advanced processors making the machine faster. An older processor, like a Pentium II, will not run nearly as fast as a more recent processor like a Pentium i3. Processors can be purchased individually from electronics retailers, but professional installation is recommended. The more GHz a processor is capable of, the faster it goes.
